Strong Employer Branding Transforms Good Companies into Great Ones

With a million job opportunities and a high demand for skilled professionals in industrial and digital technology, companies need to position themselves effectively in order to attract the best candidates. Building a strong employer brand can be the game-changer you need.

What's Employer Branding Anyway? Employer branding is basically building a great image for your company. It's about creating and promoting a positive vibe about your company among employees, potential employees, and other folks you care about. It shares the story of what it is like to work at your company.

Why Does Employer Branding Matter? In the industrial and digital world, there's an all-out war for top talent. Skilled professionals are in high demand, and they have a lot of options when it comes to job opportunities. Having a strong employer brand can help you stand out in a crowded field.

Attracting and Keeping Top Talent A strong employer brand can be the difference between attracting and keeping top talent and being left in the dust. Candidates are more likely to choose a company with a strong employer brand over one with a weaker reputation. And current employees are more likely to stick around if they feel they're working for a company that's top-notch. But, do note, it has to be authentic. (Read between the lines, candidates BS meters are at an all time high!)

Creating a Compelling Mission and Vision To build a strong employer brand, you've got to start by creating a killer mission and vision. Having a clear, inspiring mission and vision can help employees feel connected to your company's goals and purpose, which leads to a more engaged and motivated team. Let's take Google, for example. Google's mission is to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." Its vision is to "provide access to the world's information in one click." Those statements are inspiring and reflect the company's values and goals.

Offering a Supportive Work Environment A supportive work environment can make a massive difference in building a strong employer brand. Employees want to work for companies that care about their well-being and provide a positive workplace culture. Netflix is a perfect example of a company that offers a supportive work environment. The company's culture is all about "freedom and responsibility." Employees are given a lot of autonomy and trust, which leads to a more engaged and motivated workforce.

Providing Opportunities for Growth and Development Offering opportunities for growth and development is also critical for building a strong employer brand. Employees want to work for companies that invest in their professional development and provide opportunities for career advancement. Salesforce is a great example of a company that provides opportunities for growth and development. The company offers a range of training and development programs, including mentorship programs, leadership development programs, and technical training.

Showcasing Company Culture Through Social Media and Other Channels Finally, showcasing your company culture through social media and other channels is an excellent way to share and strengthen your employer brand. Social media platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter can be powerful tools for promoting your company's culture and values.

HubSpot is a company that does a fantastic job of showcasing its culture through social media. Their Instagram account features photos and videos of employees at work and play, as well as quotes and stories that reflect the company's values and culture.

It comes down to the fact that building a strong employer brand is essential for any company that wants to attract and retain top talent. Creating a compelling mission and vision, offering a supportive work environment, providing opportunities for growth and development, and showcasing company culture through social media and other channels - all while being on point and authentic - are key components of a strong employer brand. Companies that invest in their employer brand will be better positioned to succeed in the competitive talent acquisition industry and thrive in various areas of day-to-day business with both employees and clients.
