5 Encouraging TIPS for the DREADED Job Hunt
Out on the Job Hunt? We know, it can be a FULL TIME Job… and it can feel like the worst job you’ve ever had. It doesn’t have to, though. Here are 5 encouraging tips to keep you motivated and organized while job hunting:
START SMALL Make a plan and reverse engineer it to make it more palatable and achievable. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Each small action adds up to something bigger and before you know it, you’ll be knocking down those goals and creating more!
ORGANIZE YOUR OUTREACH If you are in technology, you are likely familiar with an Agile or Kanban approach to delivering products. You can use the same methodology in your job search: TO DO - add companies and jobs that you are interested in here, DOING - move them over as you’ve reached out to talent acquisition teams, or to hiring managers or when you’ve applied to their job requirements. As you move through the candidate experience, be sure to send Thank You’s and Follow Up notes. When it’s confirmed that a role is closed, or you aren’t the selected candidate - move it on over to DONE! Trello’s team shows you how here!
TAP INTO YOUR NETWORK Don't confine your job search to a (emphasis on "a") job board. Think over your past roles and colleagues that you've worked with. Tap back into your network and make time to actually re-engage with them. You can use a variety of job boards, but your network might be in the know for opportunities that aren't yet posted.
WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES, ANOTHER OPENS You bring a unique skill set and personality to the table and there is a company out there that is looking for someone just like you. Write down your strengths and relevant, recent examples so you have a few to pull out in your next interview. Check out Goodnotes - a good place to self-journal!
REJECTION IS INEVITABLE (Don’t Take it too Personally!) Most often the BOTS and ATS responses are automated. Rejection is inevitable, but remember, while it might feel like it, it’s not personal. In fact, if you get rejected along the interview process (by a real live human), a great way to make the best of it, is to ask what you could do to improve and enhance your chances for the future. With their insight, you can use this information to mold your approach for the next opportunity, get right back up, dust your knees off and get back on that horse.
