Job Hunting in 2023? You’ve got this.

The job market in 2023 is looking to be a competitive and ever-evolving one. With new technologies and industries emerging by the second, job seekers need to be more strategic and organized than ever in their search for their dream job.

Here are a few tips and strategies to help you land the job you want in 2023:

1.Stay Organized

  • Create a schedule

Set aside specific times each week to dedicate to your job search (e.g Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am-12pm). This will help you stay on track and make the most of your time.

  • Keep a spreadsheet

Use a spreadsheet to track all of the jobs you apply to, including the position, company, date of application, and follow-up status. This will help you stay organized and avoid applying to the same job multiple times. Making use of Trello would be great too - here is a template you can use - https://trello.com/b/d3yVjzRE/job-hunt

  • Network

There is great power in networking! Keep track of the contacts you make, and the conversations you’ve had with them. Reach out to your friends, family, and acquaintances in the industry, as well as former co-workers, professors, and classmates. And be sure to use the tools that are available to you, like LinkedIn to connect with people who are working in your desired field or talent agencies ready to help you get in to the role you’ve had your eye on, or sometimes, even better opportunities!

2. Follow-up Strategy:

  • Follow up promptly

After you submit your applications, follow up with a quick email or call to either follow up on the process or to thank the hiring manager for considering your application. This will help keep you top of mind, and show that you are truly interested in the position.

  • Personalize your follow-up

Generic follow-up messages are out the window this year. Be authentically you and tailor your message to show you did your research and understand the company and their needs. This will also allow you to put yourself forward and let them decide if the company culture, vibe and energy is a match.

  • Be persistent but not pushy

Like anything in life, remember that the hiring process can take time too. So to be safe, follow up once a week if you haven't heard back, but don't send more than 3 emails.

3.Stay Positive

  • Keep things in perspective

Remember that finding a job takes time, however, you MUST NOT get discouraged if you don't hear back right away. Sometimes a bit of patience is where the treasure lies.

  • Look for the silver lining

You’ve got some time to kill so let’s use this time to gain new skills or to network, or to gain new experiences. Even if you don't land your dream job right away, these activities can be beneficial to your career in the long run, no doubt.

  • Remind yourself why you're doing this

By keeping a list of your goals, the reasons why you want this job, and how it aligns with your career aspirations, will help you stay motivated and focused on the bigger picture. Giving you that last push if you happen to have a low day.

Yes, searching for a job in 2023 requires patience, organization, and persistence, but by staying organized, following up effectively, and reminding yourself to stay positive, you’ll increase your chances of landing your dream job.

Pro tip: Remember to always research the company and tailor your application to show that you are a good fit for the role and organization/culture. Don’t forget to send your resume out to talent agencies to expand your chances, too!

With the right attitude from the get go, you’ll find that perfect opportunity this year.
